NEW BERN, N.C. – Congressman Walter B. Jones has called for an investigation into the fire that’s burned more than 21,000 acres in the Croatan National Forest.
Jones wrote the supervisor of the U.S. Forest Service in North Carolina asking for an investigation of the prescribed burn. He says the burn is hurting tourism and public health.
Smoke from the blaze has prompted the state Division of Air Quality to issue a Code Red advisory for portions of Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties, and a Code Orange warning for Beaufort, Craven, Hyde, Jones, Martin, Pamlico, Pitt, Jones and Washington counties.
